    Tips for energy efficient design

Position the living areas on the North side of your house, these are used most frequently and benefit from summer light and winter sun.
Position windows on the North side with an eave, eaves block the summer sun entering and heating up the building but still allowing the winter sun in.
Double glaze windows, especially to all living areas.
Position laundries, toilets, bathrooms, etc. to the South side.
External awnings over windows help with keeping the summer heat out of your house.
Pull down block out blinds on windows to help with trapping the heat in your house on those cold winter nights.

An assessment would cost between $200 and $300. “…homes rated five and six attracted premiums of 2% per cent and 2.4% per cent respectively….”
Based on an average home value in Melbourne this could equate to an extra $21,600 in value for a 6 star home. “7 star rated properties fetched premiums of up to 9.4% per cent or $84,600 !!
